Eyelid Surgery
in Jacksonville, FL

There is an old saying that the eyes are the windows to the soul, and as we see the world through our eyes so our eyes tell the world a lot about us. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is performed to reduce the aged and tired look of heavy, puffy eyelids.

At Posh Plastic Surgery, we offer lower eyelid surgery and upper eyelid surgery for patients in Jacksonville who want to rejuvenate the youthful beauty of their eyes.

The Factors the Affect the Appearance of Your Eyelids

There are many factors that can contribute to puffy, droopy, and tired looking eyes, including:

  • Chronic lack of sleep and tiredness
  • An unhealthy diet or lifestyle
  • Excessive drinking
  • Gravity
  • Aging
  • Heredity factors

There is also a condition called ptosis of the eyelid (droopy eyelid) in which the levator muscle, responsible for raising the eyelid, is weak, or the related nerves are damaged, so the upper eyelid hangs down excessively often partially blocking the vision. Ptosis of the eyelid can occur in children as well as the elderly. This is treated by surgically tightening the levator muscle.

Your Eyelid Surgery will be performed by Dr. Sofia Kirk at her office in Jacksonville, FL.

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is the corrective procedure whereby the excess skin, muscle and sometimes fat is removed from the eyelids to give a fresh, rejuvenated appearance to the eyes. Blepharoplasty can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids in order to address specific issue with the eyes.

Upper blepharoplasty – The upper eyelids can slowly begin to droop over time. This causes the eyelid skin to wrinkle and sag which can make the person with the sagging upper eyelids appear fatigued or sleepy at all times. Upper blepharoplasty, also known as an upper eyelid lift, focuses on eliminating excess skin, tightening the muscles, and lifting the upper eyelid to give the eye a rejuvenated appearance.

Lower blepharoplasty – Over time, fat can accumulate in the area underneath the eyes and create the appearance of puffy under eye bags. Lower eyelid surgery is performed to remove this excess fat through a small incision. Enough fat is removed to reduce puffiness but some fat is left in place so the undereyes do not appear sunken.

Another type of eyelid surgery that is becoming more popular is Asian or double eyelid surgery which is a procedure to give a crease to the upper eyelid in Asian patients. At Posh Plastic Surgery we do not perform Asian eyelid surgery nor do we treat ptosis of the eyelid. We feel that such procedures are extremely refined and can be tricky to get just right and therefore we advise that anyone looking to have either of these procedures done should consult a specialist with a great deal of experience and ask to see plenty of before and after pictures to be certain that they trust the skill of the surgeon before they choose to undergo their procedure.

I had an amazing experience with Dr. Kirk and her stuff. They are very kind, welcoming and down to earth kind of people and their confidence definitely took all my fears away. Not just before the procedure, but also during my post-op visits. And, I am so, so happy with my results! I enjoy listening to my friends “wows” and their continuous guessing my age. :))). I’ll be back for more. Thank you Posh PS.
