Upper Arm Lift

Conveniently located to serve Jacksonville, FL

A brachioplasty, or arm lift surgery, is a procedure performed to tighten the skin of the upper arm. The best candidate for an upper arm lift is a patient who has excess skin on the upper arm after massive weight loss after a gastric bypass or lap band procedure. Some people requesting liposuction of the arms are really a better candidate for bilateral brachioplasty surgery because of the excess skin.

Most patients are very happy that they have the procedure done, as long as they are willing to accept the arm lift scars, which take a long time to even out, and can be thick. Brachioplasty scars will fade over time, but are always visible, and it is important to look at arm lift before and after photos to make sure you are willing to live with the scars. If the deformity is severe, then the trade off of loose hanging skin for a scar on the inside of the arm is worth it. In some cases, arm liposuction or arm liposelection is done at the same time and can affect the cost of arm lift surgery.

What are the Benefits of an Arm Lift?

An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, gives the upper arm a tighter, more toned, and shapely appearance by removing excess sagging tissue and fat from the area.

A few of the major benefits of arm lift surgery include:

  • Removal of excess fat and skin
An arm lift surgery removes the excess fat and skin hanging below your upper arms.
  • Tighter and more toned appearance
If you have flabby and saggy arms, an arm lift can make your arms shapelier and more toned by reshaping the underlying tissue and removing excess skin.
  • Improved body shape
An arm lift surgery will make your arms proportionate to the rest of your body. Losing excess weight can leave you with flabby arms. The surgery will make your body look more balanced.

If you feel conscious about the saggy, loose skin on your arms, an arm lift surgery may help restore your sense of comfort with your appearance. The surgery will give you smooth, toned, taut looking arms which can improve your self-image. An arm lift can also allow you to feel more comfortable in certain types of clothes like sleeveless shirts.

How to Prepare for an Arm Lift

Plastic surgeon Dr. Sofia Kirk will guide you on how best to prepare for an arm lift surgery during your consultation. She will address any questions or concerns you may have about the procedure and explain how the procedure is performed. She will also evaluate your current health and ask about your medical history. You may be told to stop taking any anti-inflammatory medications prior to surgery

If you look at the arm lift before and after pictures on this page, you will see the dramatic improvement in the contour of the arm that can be produced.

In some cases, when the deformity is less severe, a mini arm lift or short scar arm lift can be performed, but Dr. Kirk would need to evaluate you to determine whether a mini brachioplasty would be appropriate.

How Arm Lift Surgery is Performed

Typically the procedure is performed under general anesthesia, but sometimes can be performed under local anesthesia in the case of a minimal incision brachioplasty. The procedure lasts about 2 hours, and drains are used for a few days. In most cases the sutures are absorbable so there is no need for suture removal afterwards. Brachioplasty recovery time is about 1-2 weeks, but persistent swelling is present for 6-8 weeks. Patients wear a compression garment for about 6 weeks after surgery.

The Cost of an Arm Lift

Brachioplasty cost can vary depending on whether general or local anesthesia is used, and the length of time the surgery takes. Dr. Kirk will perform a thorough examination and go over what your arm lift cost will be during the consultation or suggest arm liposuction if it is more appropriate.
